Airlines and Traveling with boards-last updated 5-5-2010, through my experience I have found that Air Newzealand offers free board check in as long as it is under 8ft or something like that. Do not fly British Airways because they don't take boards over 5ft and who really has board that small. US airways takes one board at $100 which is okay, but kind of steep. United is very expensive one board is $165 and much more for multiple boards. Alaska is a bit more expensive flight but boards are only $50 and you can put more then one in a bag and it's fine, it's also a really good airline. I try to update my info as much as possible but if it doesn't get done in a timely manner it might be a good idea to check the airlines for yourself, but this is a good start.

Housing in another country-5-5-2010- Coachsurfing can be a great idea, you might have to be a little more creative in your living style but there are so many more experiences to doing it this way. Also if you are traveling for a contest you could possibly contact the contest itself to try and find lodging, or contact some of the local sponsors of the contest to see if they might be able to house a traveling surfer, this has worked for me in the past, and again the hospitality was amazing.
