Director’s Statement
I was raised in Hawaii with surfing and the ocean being my after-school program. As I became older, I listened to what others said to do, go to college, and get a job. When it came time to graduate and no one telling me exactly what to do, I decided to follow my dream: becoming a professional surfer.
We are told as children that if we put our minds to something we can accomplish anything. I wanted to put this to the test. Is this really true? This is what inspired me to make this film; I wanted to document my journey of trying to make it as a professional surfer.
With the inspiration of classic surf films like Bruce Brown’s “Endless Summer I and II” with a bit of influence of Morgan Spurlock’s “Super Size Me” became the format of this film. I wanted to take people surfing and traveling around the world. Show them new sights and allow them to feel the emotional roller coaster of the professional surfing world. I could never have imagined the journey would have taken me to where I am now. I don’t think you will believe it either. I am more than happy with how it turned out and even more ecstatic that I decided to pursue the dream of “Going Pro.”
My hopes are that viewers will be inspired not to listen to the fear, tell the haters to take a hike, and pursue their dreams of “Going Pro.”
